Menu Categories
Menu Categories are how you group related items on your menu — for example Appetizers, Main Courses, Drinks, or Desserts. Organising your items into clear categories makes your menu easier for customers to browse on every connected channel, and keeps your menu tidy as it grows.
Why use categories?
- Easier browsing — customers find what they want faster when items are grouped logically.
- A cleaner menu — related items stay together instead of sitting in one long list.
- Consistent everywhere — the categories you set in klikit carry through to your connected delivery apps and Webshop.
How do I set up a category?
You can create and manage categories from the Menu tab in your klikit dashboard. Watch the short video above for a step-by-step walkthrough of creating a category.
Once your categories are created, you can control the order they appear in — see How do I sequence Categories, Items, and Modifiers in a menu? to arrange them.
My new category appears on one delivery app but not another
A category that publishes successfully to one channel but does not show up on another after the same Sync & Publish is not expected behaviour. It is not something you need to reconfigure on the delivery app's side.
Raise it with support. In most cases it turns out to be one of two things:
- an item or category visibility setting that is hiding it on that channel, or
- a modifier misconfiguration on one of the items in the category.
Tell us the category name, the branch, and which channel it is missing from, and we will check it.
If the publish itself reported an error rather than succeeding, see What do the menu publish statuses mean? first — that is a different problem with a different fix.

Step-by-step: create a category, link it to a menu, and add items
Menus can only be edited on klikit Cloud (cloud.klikit.io) using a desktop browser.
1. Create the category. Categories are created at the business level on klikit Cloud.
- Go to the Menu tab on klikit Cloud.
- Select the brand you want to manage.
- Go to the Categories section.
- Click New or Add Category.
- Enter the category name and any relevant flags (alcoholic beverages, halal, etc.).
- Click Save.
After creating a category, you need to link it to a section (menu) and add items to it before it becomes useful.
2. Link the category to a section (menu). Categories must be linked to a section (menu) to appear in your menu structure.
- From the Menu tab, select the section you want to add the category to.
- Use the Category dropdown tool to add or remove categories from that section.
- Save changes.
A single category can be linked to multiple sections. For example, a "Beverages" category could appear in both a "Lunch Menu" and a "Dinner Menu" section.
3. Add items to the category. Items are linked to categories so they appear under the correct grouping.
- Go to the Items section of the Menu tab.
- Click on the item you want to categorize.
- Click "Add to Category."
- A dropdown list of available categories will appear. Select the relevant categories.
- Click Save.
An item can belong to multiple categories.
4. Sync and Publish. After making category changes on the Business Menu, Sync to the desired branches, then Publish. Category additions, removals, and reordering all require a Publish step to reflect on consumer apps.
Common questions
Kenapa menu paket lauk saya tidak kelihatan sendiri, tapi baru muncul setelah konsumen klik menu lain?
Items only show under their own grouping when they are linked to a category: go to the Items section of the Menu tab, click the item, click "Add to Category," select the relevant categories from the dropdown, and Save. An item can belong to multiple categories. The category itself also has to be linked to a section (menu) — from the Menu tab select the section and use the Category dropdown tool to add the category, then save. Category additions, removals and reordering only reflect on consumer apps after you Sync to the branches and Publish.
Item saya cuma muncul kalau item lain dipilih dulu, ini masalah modifier ya?
An item showing only through another item points to either an item or category visibility setting, or a modifier misconfiguration on one of the items in the category. That is not something you need to reconfigure on the delivery app's side — raise it with support and tell us the category name, the branch, and which channel it is missing from, and we will check it.
