What are modifiers?
Modifiers are attached to an item, either to specify a detail about the item or as an optional add-on to that item.
For example, on your Fried Chicken Burger, you can provide the customer with the option of the item being 'mild' or 'spicy' or 'extra spicy'. Or you could add 'extra cheese' for a nominated price!
Modifiers are a great way to offer customizations to customers, allowing them to personalize their purchase, it can also be a great way to increase revenue on an order.
Here are a few ideas to for modifiers:
- Add a drink
- Add a dessert
- Add an extra burger patty/extra cheese/bacon
- Size (medium, large, extra large)
How do I use an Item as a Modifier?
Learn how to connect your items and modifiers to streamline the menu management process.
On the klikit Menu Manager, all items can be marked as modifiers by toggling on the "Mark item as modifier" toggle.
By marking an item as a modifier, you can include it in both modifier groups and categories, enhancing your menu customization options. All subsequent out-of-stock availability changes made using the klikit Cloud Menu Manager will apply to both the modifier groups attached to the items and the items used in categories.

How do I add or edit modifiers?
Having Item Modifiers allows for you to cross-sell items together and include add-ons that can increase your revenue and improve customer experience in eating your food!
**Take a note that only Business Owner role can edit the menu for all brands and Brand Manager can edit the menu of specific brand.
**
Before you can tie your modifier to the menu item, you have to create the modifier group first. In order to add modifier groups:
- Select the menu tab in the dashboard,
- Select the brand you wish to add/edit the modifier in
- Select the modifiers option
- In modifier groups, select 'new'
Once the modifier groups have been made, you can tie this to any existing or new menu item. In order to do so:
- Select the category and item from the menu
- Click "+ Add Modifier Group"
- Select the modifier group you want to tie to the menu item
- Select the rule you wish to apply to the modifier group
- Select the modifiers you want to include with the item.
- Press "Update" for existing menu items and "Submit" for new items
Take note that once modifiers are tied to an item, changes need to be made to the modifier ON THE ITEM IN THE MENU, NOT ON THE MODIFIER TAB.
Changes made in the modifier tab will only apply for any new menu item you will build with those modifiers.
If you want to apply changes made on a modifier group to an existing item, follow these steps:
- "x" the Modifier group on the menu item
- Click "Update"
- Reselect the Modifier Group, Rule and Modifiers that you want the tie to the item
- Click "Update"
If you want certain modifiers to apply on specific aggregators, you can also do so! This applies to modifiers tied to menu items as well. To do so, simply: 1. Click on the eye icon beside the toggle
- Select visibility for the aggregators
What are modifier conditions?
Modifier conditions ensure that customization options in your menu comply with predefined rules. Each modifier group must satisfy specific requirements to function properly. Modifier groups must meet specific rules to work correctly. if not, it will prevent modifiers groups from being attached or detached to items.
Example:
- If the rule is exactly 1 or has option 0-1, one modifier should be present in the group.
- if the rule is 0-4, it requires at least 4 modifiers. If only 3 are attached, the group won’t work.
Ensure modifier groups meet minimum and maximum requirements to avoid errors.

How do I remove a single modifier option from an item?
Once modifiers are tied to an item, changes need to be made to the modifier on the item in the menu, not on the modifier tab — changes made in the modifier tab will only apply for any new menu item you will build with those modifiers.
To change which options are attached to an existing item:
- Open the item and remove the modifier group by clicking the "x" next to it.
- Click Update to save.
- Reselect the Modifier Group and the rule, and select the modifiers you want to include with the item — leave out the option you no longer want.
- Click Update again.
After any modifier changes, remember to Sync and Publish for changes to appear on consumer apps.
Watch out for modifier conditions. Modifier groups must meet specific rules to work correctly; if not, it will prevent modifier groups from being attached or detached to items. For example, if the rule is 0-4, it requires at least 4 modifiers — if only 3 are attached, the group won't work. So make sure the group still satisfies its rule after you drop an option.
Common questions
Our add-on menus only allow customers to select one topping. We want them to be able to select as many as they want — where do I change that?
How many options a customer can pick is decided by the rule you apply when the modifier group is attached to the item: open the category and item from the menu, click "+ Add Modifier Group", select the modifier group, then "Select the rule you wish to apply to the modifier group", select the modifiers you want to include, and press Update for existing items (or Submit for new ones).
We already have the topping group live — how do I change the selection rule on an existing item?
Once modifiers are tied to an item, changes need to be made to the modifier on the item in the menu, not on the modifier tab; changes made in the modifier tab only apply to new menu items you build with those modifiers. To apply a change to an existing item: "x" the modifier group on the menu item → click Update → reselect the Modifier Group, Rule and Modifiers you want tied to the item → click Update. After any modifier changes, remember to Sync and Publish for changes to appear on consumer apps.
We want a "none" option so toppings stay optional — is that a rule setting?
The options a group offers and how it behaves are governed by modifier conditions: each modifier group must satisfy specific requirements to function properly. The rules include ranges — for example, if the rule is exactly 1 or has option 0-1, one modifier should be present in the group; if the rule is 0-4, it requires at least 4 modifiers, and if only 3 are attached the group won't work. Make sure the group still meets its minimum and maximum requirements, otherwise it will be prevented from being attached or detached to items. If you need further assistance, please submit your menu edit request via the form, or tap the "Live Chat" button on the right bottom corner of your screen.
Can the topping options be different per aggregator?
Yes — if you want certain modifiers to apply on specific aggregators (this also applies to modifiers tied to menu items), click on the eye icon beside the toggle and select visibility for the aggregators.
